How do I book an appointment at ProVision Eye Clinic in Idstein and what should I bring?

You can book an appointment conveniently online or by phone. Please bring:

  • your health insurance card
  • if available: your glasses prescription
  • if available: your glasses or contact lens prescription
  • if available: previous findings
  • if available: a current eye drop plan

If you wear contact lenses, please bring them with you as well. For certain examinations, it may be necessary not to wear contact lenses before the appointment, as they can affect measurement results.

A referral is usually not required. The duration of the examination depends on your symptoms and the scope of the necessary tests.

If pupil-dilating eye drops are required for your examination, you must not drive afterwards.

When should I see an ophthalmologist?

You should see an ophthalmologist if you notice symptoms such as:

  • worsening vision
  • blurred vision
  • flashes of light
  • light sensitivity
  • eye pain
  • other changes in your vision

Even without symptoms, regular preventive eye examinations are useful – especially if you have:

  • diabetes mellitus
  • high blood pressure
  • high myopia
  • a family history of eye disease

Conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration often cause no symptoms for a long time and can be detected early through regular check-ups.

After the examination, we will determine individually how often follow-up checks are needed.

What is an OCT eye examination?

OCT (optical coherence tomography) is a modern, painless and contact-free imaging method that produces high-resolution cross-sectional images of the retina and optic nerve. It enables early detection and follow-up monitoring of conditions such as:

  • glaucoma
  • age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • other retinal diseases

The examination takes only a few minutes. Whether pupil dilation with eye drops is necessary depends on the question being investigated and the size of your pupils. In many cases, OCT can also be performed without dilating drops.

Will my eyes be dilated during the examination?

Yes, for certain ophthalmological examinations, eye drops are used to dilate the pupils. This allows us to carefully assess the retina, optic nerve and other areas at the back of the eye.

Please note:

  • Your vision may be impaired for several hours after the examination.
  • Your eyes are often more sensitive to light during this time.
  • You should not drive after the examination.
  • It is best to bring sunglasses with you.

Depending on the clinical question, high-resolution retinal photography may be an alternative. We decide individually during the examination whether this is possible in your case.

Do you also treat children?

Yes, we offer pediatric eye examinations for children from the age of 3. In cases of acute eye complaints, younger children may also be examined after individual consultation.

Regular eye examinations can detect early and allow targeted treatment of:

  • refractive errors
  • strabismus
  • visual development disorders

For an exact determination of visual acuity, special eye drops are often required in children. Afterwards, vision may be blurred for several hours and the eyes may be more sensitive to light. For the way home, it is best to bring sunglasses or a cap for your child.

Can I come without an appointment in an eye emergency?

Yes, acute eye complaints are also treated without an appointment. These include:

  • sudden worsening of vision
  • flashes of light
  • severe eye pain
  • eye injuries
  • other ophthalmological emergencies

Please call the practice beforehand whenever possible. If you cannot reach us by phone, you may also come directly to the practice during our regular consultation hours. We do our best to treat ophthalmological emergencies as quickly as possible.
